I always say I'm not a feminist, because I see too many feminists degrade, humiliate and just generally hurt decent male humans.
But seriously, isn't that beautyful?

I read the new ZEIT today, in which there was a feature about why so many successful german women don't bear children.
One detail facinated me the most: There are too few men in this country, who want a girl right beside them. On their social step. With their width of horizon. Education. Wealth and income.
Too many boys are still told to take care of their girls (And I don't mean 'taking care' like loving someone or backing someone up. I mean like 'supervise' or simply 'feed'.), when they grow up. And the girls are told that they don't need anyone to take care of them but themselves.
I wish mothers would tell their little boys that they are strong and don't need to take care of someone to be a man.

I've been researching aspects of feminism in the past couple weeks intensively. It's shocking that many people (all genders) are almost scared or disgusted by feminists as a whole because of the more militant and intolerant branches. And I've come across so incredibly intolerant feminists that I'm starting to understand these feelings. I like your first sentence though. Many males I know have been extremely offended by people calling themselves "feminist" before when there was no reason at all to do so. Very complicated issue to talk about, too.

Indeed. And very personal, to me, too. My mother calls herself a feminist. She's totally uninformed and tried everything to hurt my father and control her daughters.
As I see it, she's everything but a feminist. Dad is a feminist. My sister is. I am.
But the label 'feminist' is still used by so many wrong doers, and sadly they are the loudest. They give feminism a bad name.
I just posted this because the picture really moved me.

And it is a really moving picture. It isn't oppressing, it doesn't humiliate. It merely states a truth about real feminism. We're strong. For a young girl to have learned that at her age is, to me, progress for all women. I hope she continues to hold her placard high.
