about feminism
Mar. 16th, 2006 06:44 pmI always say I'm not a feminist, because I see too many feminists degrade, humiliate and just generally hurt decent male humans.
But seriously, isn't that beautyful?
I read the new ZEIT today, in which there was a feature about why so many successful german women don't bear children.
One detail facinated me the most: There are too few men in this country, who want a girl right beside them. On their social step. With their width of horizon. Education. Wealth and income.
Too many boys are still told to take care of their girls (And I don't mean 'taking care' like loving someone or backing someone up. I mean like 'supervise' or simply 'feed'.), when they grow up. And the girls are told that they don't need anyone to take care of them but themselves.
I wish mothers would tell their little boys that they are strong and don't need to take care of someone to be a man.

Date: 2006-03-16 06:21 pm (UTC)problem is, most feminists I hear talking in germany are opressors themselves. they change the meaning of 'feminism' into it's opposite, thereby making it impossible for me to want to belong to them by taking the label 'feminist'.

Date: 2006-03-16 06:35 pm (UTC)As I see it, she's everything but a feminist. Dad is a feminist. My sister is. I am.
But the label 'feminist' is still used by so many wrong doers, and sadly they are the loudest. They give feminism a bad name.
I just posted this because the picture really moved me.
