Ah well. Language is so easy to lose when you don't use it. I took German in high school and then spent a month in Germany just before I went off to college. Was fluent enough that I was able to test out of all of the language requirements for college. I have some family over there that I've still never met, too.
Unfortunately, since I didn't know anybody else who spoke the language, I stopped using it and ended up forgetting pretty much all of it. Now, 4-year-olds would probably laugh at me for being less literate than them. ;)
Depends on the 4-year-olds, with our integration problem and all. There are kids born in Germany from formerly foreign families, who can't speak decent german when they come into school. And if you ever do come to Germany, come over for a visit! :D
