Wow, that sounds... completely overwhelming. My meeting with aunt Emmy was a bit like that, but not quite so much because at least we didn't meet as academics, only as relatives. Prof S.'s way of talking sounds quite like Emmy though. And how brutal to overrun you with her fixed opinions about everything - on your very first day!
Hope you find a quiet moment to accustom yourself to being there, and to deal with all the mixed emotions! And tell her you can always write your doctor thesis later, after growing familiar with the territory and the artists ;) Surely it isn't that unreasonable to start small and work up to a grander scale later?
