Rabbit Hole Day

There was this, this tiny shiny elephant on the window of the train, and the woman boarding next to me asked me if this was the right one.
I said: "I don't know shit about *tiny* elephants, ma'am, just the big ones."
She didn't say anything and just kinda stared at me.
So I asked her: "What's wrong with that? I'm battling the big ones daily, but tiny ones? Why should I know anything about it, and anyway, is it yours? Couldn't you, please, just take it away, it stops the sun from blinding me."
The woman made a small sound and then she said: "Train. Is this the right... train."
I said: "Duuh, onna, you could define 'right' and then we could start talking."
Her voice got kinda small: "To Kiel?"
I sighed: "Yeah, but it's also back, deeply back into ancient history." I think she wanted to say something else, too, but I stopped her, saying: "If I could just get my heavy black boots back, I wouldn't mind losing the rest of it."
I meant of ancient history. I meant of the elephant. But she asked, timidly: "Of.. the train?"
I raised an eyebrow and said: "Now that lady, that's just crazy talk."
